Criminal acts of personal data theft can undermine public trust in election processes and results. Electronic election technology actually makes it easier for cyber citizens to engage in virtual political activities in the current era of digital democracy. This study seeks to explain cybercrime, the weak protection of citizen data, and its implications for the integrity of election results. This qualitative study, using a case study approach based on a literature review, found that the development of digital technology will always be compatible with an increase in data theft crimes and its implications for the integrity of election results due to data leaks that are often exploited by hackers to delegitimize state control over dignified election results.
